Title: Child of the Owl
Author: Laurence Yep
Pages: 80 - 116
Quote:
Jasmine had the time to snatch the dress from his hand, but she did not. Instead, she rose from her hiding place and stepped forward. "I am a thousand years old," she said, "and I was never meant to walk on the ground this long I have worked faithfully by your side and have been respectful to your parents and I have given you sons. Now I would ask you for my dress."... For Jasmine had stayed as beautiful and young as the first day he had caputured her. "It is only that I am tired of walking, always walking," she said. "I really am an owl after all."
Reaction:
Paw-Paw is telling the story and I found out that the owl in the story is a thousand year old lady named Jasmine who stayed looking young so no one would think that she is really old. I thought the owl would be just an owl. It's amazing to here a story with someone that is a thousand years old and is in the form a of a young woman, but she's actually an owl. I feel so amazed by this story.

Day 2 Reading Log:

Date: 10/1/08
Title: Child of the Owl
Author: Laurence Yep
Pages: 116 - 157
Quote:
She held up her hand so I could see the chopstick was near the first jointof her middle and fourth fingers and held there ridgidly. "You keep this one straight. It's the top chopstick you move around."
Reaction: Its a very good thing that Casey is still learning about her Chinese heritage. Sometimes, she doesn't like to learn about her heritage or her culture because she thinks its too complicated. I would ALWAYS love to learn about my Filipino heritage. Everday I learn something ad so does Casey. I can really related to what she is feeling. Sometimes, I get frustrated if I'm doing something wrong and sometimes, I just give up.But what I feel about this quote is that I feel very connected to Casey and I know how she feels because I feel the same way.
